“I wanted to write songs from the standpoint of
a grown man, which is where this entire album is coming
from. I got the inspiration from watching BET’s
Music For Grown Folks and realized that many of the artists
they featured were basically kids - who only attempted
to come from a place of worldy experience. But they really
haven’t lived life and truly experienced love and
relationships deeper than high school romances. Young
men don’t usually encounter real women - they encounter
girls - the difference being real women have more complex
life experiences, things like careers and relationships.
‘Like Water’ is from the point of view of
a man who has everything, except the love of a woman…
